It’s always a little awkward when they do x-rays at the dentist office. You know, when you’re sitting there in a chair, biting down on some flat piece of plastic-y thing, with a big black tube aimed at your head, point-blank. And that’s not even the worst part! It’s when the dentist or hygienist leaves the room and swings an arm back in to start the x-ray cannon. And I’m thinking to myself, “Should I be wearing a lead vest?” That’s probably the worst part.

Apparently, I only identify 1 and a half constellations: the Big Dipper and Orion’s belt. That’s right, I don’t even know what’s up with this Orion fellow, can just recognize the dude’s belt–thus the “and a half”.

The Faint – The Geeks Were Right

Probably wouldn’t be a very difficult track, but I would love to see this song on Rock Band as DLC. I remember submitting this as a suggestion to them a while back via http://www.rockband.com/request, but nothing ever came out of it. A few weeks later, it shows up on the Guitar Hero platform as DLC. WTF. I’ll settle for any track by The Faint, really.

Mary Jane

“I got some new shoes today”, Lauren says. “Tennis shoes that aren’t really tennis shoes… they’re cut like Mary Janes.”

To which I replied, “Whaa….?” Her statement made no sense to me at all.

You see, there’s only 2 Mary Jane’s that I am familiar with. One is Spider-Man’s love interest, Mary Jane Watson… as in “Face it, Tiger, You Just Hit The Jackpot!” The other Mary Jane that I am familiar wi… er, what I mean to say is, the other place where I have heard the term “Mary Jane” is in reference to marijuana. Makes sense, right? Even though it does not have a similar pronunciation, you can tell how it got that nickname. How does this all relate to tennis shoes?

For the uninformed (just like I was), here is a link to the Wikipedia entry on Mary Jane (shoes): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jane_%28shoe%29. Chances are, you’ve seen them before, just never knew they had a name. I had always thought they were just shoes with straps. People gotta go and be naming everything, I guess.

Interestingly enough, Lauren had not heard of the latter Mary Jane context. Turns out, we both knew the Spider-Man one, though.

I recently created the subdomain http://software.lloydskoyd.com as a home for my software development blog. But just the stuff on the side when I have time. The motivating factor? I published another app for webOS, TangramPuzzle.

The Worst Thing About Being 26

Now when I am filling out forms on websites, I find that I frequently have to select the 26-35 age range dropdown, which I am so not used to. I guess I’d just gotten comfortable using the 18-25 dropdown. Eee… 36 ain’t gonna be pretty.

One of the main reasons why I have a hard time stopping once I’ve cracked into a bag of Cheetos is the orange fingers. Once you get it all over your fingers, it’s an instant commitment to keep going–nobody wants to stop, clean your hands, only to get them all orange again when you want just 1 more. Best solution: don’t stop.
